Never a dull moment for me!
I forgot to mention that when I got back from the airport on Sunday I had an extremely blonde moment! After not sleeping so much that weekend, traveling, and just feeling a bit run down - I was so out of it when I went to pay the driver, I made a huge error on my part.
The currency here is VND = Vietnam Dong. $1 US = 17,718 VND. When I pulled up to my apartment, the meter read 89.0. Meaning I owed 90,000 VND which = a $5 US fare. Me, being totally out of it counted out my 100,000 VND as if they were 10,000 VND and ended up paying 900,000 for a 90,000 fare! Yup, I paid $50 for $5 cab ride.
Of course I realized this AFTER returning up to my apartment and putting things I away. I was like, did I really just do that?!?!?! I explained what happened to a guest services representative at my apartment and she offered to help me by contacting the cab company.
Ms. Minh has bent over backwards trying to help me and she even set up an appointment with me and the cab company last night. Go figure! I had not planned on having a meeting with Vinasun Taxi while here - I just had to blog about it because it's so humourous to me now. My apartment actually has the driver on tape dropping me off. When asked if he dropped me off he of course denied it not knowing he was on tape. Ms. Minh came with me to Vinasun for the meeting to translate, I'll find out today if anything has been resolved.
I know, I could have let is slide, it's really not that big of a deal but now it's just the point of it all. Ms. Minh has wanted to help me and the driver keeps lying about having not even driven me...
Lesson of this all is to not be so out of it when counting my money here and pay attention!
